Will you help older people in Myanmar?
On Friday 28 March at 12.50pm local time, a devastating earthquake struck central Myanmar. The epicentre was located close to the cities of Sagaing and Mandalay, in the Sagaing Region of central Myanmar.
Thousands are reported to have died or suffered injury. It is expected that the death toll will rise significantly over the coming days and months, as the true scale of the disaster emerges.
The earthquake has left communities, who were already living in extremely challenging circumstances, in need of life-saving shelter, clean water, emergency healthcare, and food.
We know that older people are particularly affected by the earthquake
In earthquake disaster situations, older people are more likely to die or face serious injury than the rest of the population. Their needs are often forgotten or ignored. The situation for them and their families is dire.
