Mental Health Awareness Week 2023

This Mental Health Awareness Week, Age International highlights the need for better mental health support for older people in lower-income countries.
The UK government has championed the issue of mental health, but the needs of older people in low and middle-income countries are often overlooked - despite a globally ageing population. Many older people in countries like Kenya don't have access to enough support to maintain and improve their emotional wellbeing, yet those in later life can have an increased risk of mental ill health.
Older People's Associations like the ones Age International has helped to set up around the world can have an enormous impact, raising awareness in the community and with health workers and fighting isolation and loneliness. In this interactive feature, we share the story of 68-year-old Jairo.
